AutoSD, Inc. was incorporated in 1990 when it began marketing the AutoSD Steel Detailing program after spending two years before that developing the software. The program has come a long way since then. With my many years of drafting experience I believe I have created a CAD program that is easy to use and creates attractive, functional drawings with well placed dimensions.

Hi. My name is Ray Hoyt and I am the president and owner of AutoSD, Inc. I have been a registered developer with AutoDesk since AutoCAD release 10. I started working for an engineering/detailing firm in 1974 after graduating from my local Community College with an AA degree in Drafting and Design. I was trained as a Steel Detailer and was promoted to checker after one year. Later I was promoted to chief draftsman and then drafting manager where I oversaw the drafting rooms of the company in five different cities. The company I worked for bought a computer detailing program in the early 80's. This was my first exposure to CAD drafting. The program was not user friendly and would not do stairs, ladders, handrail or any other miscellaneous detailing. I thought there had to be a better way to create details, the way a detailer would do it by hand, and be more comprehensive. I set out to do just that by teaching myself Lisp using AutoCAD. I believe I have accomplished my goals by using the powerful graphics engine of AutoCAD and the robust programming language of Lisp.

In the years since I started the company I became self employed as a Steel Detailer and continued to work on the software at night while I used it to detail with during the day. Sells of the software had increased enough by January 1998 that I made the leap to quit detailing so I could work fulltime on software development and technical support.
